Crash victim airlifted to hospital
A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after another road crash at a junction where safety fears were raised a few weeks ago.
The accident occurred at the crossroads of Morestead Road and Longwood Road on the northern edge of Owslebury.
Two cars, carrying a total of five people, were involved in the collision at 10.40am yesterday (Sunday, May 4).
Fire crews from Winchester and Bishop's Waltham had to cut one person out of the wreckage of one of the cars.
She was then taken by helicopter to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth with pelvic injuries, an ambulance service spokeswoman said.
Nobody was trapped in the other vehicle, although it did catch fire after the accident, and the fire crews had to put it out. There were no reports of any other serious injuries.
The accident occurred at the same spot where a police car on a training exercise collided with a flatbed lorry three months ago.
That crash resulted in five people - including four police officers - being taken to hospital with a mixture of cuts and bruises. The lorry driver also sustained a broken arm.
Soon after the accident in February, Mark Oaten went to meet Owslebury residents who raised concerns about the junction.
The Winchester MP called for highways engineers at Hampshire County Council to inspect the crossroads.
He added: "Safety is a priority and something that needs to be carefully examined.
"The residents of Owslebury have the right to feel safe on the roads in their community. Those who I have spoken to are worried and concerned about the safety of this junction so we have a duty to bring about improvements."

I use the road/junction regularly and agree that the junction is dangerous. Cars travel too fast and i've been overtaken at the junction, despite indicating to turn into the village. As a horse rider, I would add that it can be dangerous crossing the road the Morestead Road due to speed and overtaking vehicles.
