Support for recycling bins

TOWN centre recycling bins need to be installed in Bishop's Waltham and Wickham, the Meon Valley's Tory prospective Parliamentary candidate has said.

George Hollingbery is keen on plans to set up the bins after calls from traders.

Winchester City Council has looked into the idea and the bins, which will be dual purpose, are likely to be put in Winchester soon.

However, Cllr Hollingbery, who is deputy leader of Winchester City Council, called for them to be rolled out in the major towns across the district.

He said: "Many people have said they would like recycling facilities nearer to hand in town centres for things like drinks cans and plastic bottles.

"Clearly everyone wants to be green these days and I think it's the job of councils to help get these important but simple schemes going.

"The city council is very keen on green measures and recycling, so I will be lobbying my colleagues to try and get these bins rolled out in towns and villages like Wickham and Bishop's Waltham in the future.

Cllr Hollingbery added: "There is, of course, a cost for emptying bins that are dual purpose, but as long as it's not prohibitive, it should be done."
