Peveril's Battle of the Bands was a success

Budding rock stars from Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh performed in front of an enthusiastic audience as part of their annual Battle of the Bands competition.
The event, which is one of a number of social events organised by the Student Committee, was held at Talking Heads' in Portswood, Southampton, and attracted over 70 students, band members, friends and staff.
The audience were treated to a diverse range of musical styles, reflecting the different influences and tastes of the bands involved.
All interested bands were asked to produce a demo CD from which the committee members and staff selected four bands to play on the night, each performing a 25-minute set.
At the end of all the performances, the very important task of choosing a winner took place and votes were cast by the audience, a panel of judges and by the bands involved, to ensure that everyone had the chance to vote for their favourite group.
It proved to be a close contest.
The Pengawackas' were thrilled when they were announced as the winners, as their lively performance and eclectic mix of instruments (which included a tuba, trombone and a human beat box!!) proved to be a hit.
The band's prize is to perform at the College's Valedictory Ball in June.
Karen Sessions, Student Liaison Officer at Barton Peveril College, helped to organise the event and said: "The bands really enjoyed having the opportunity to play to other students and to compete against each other. The musicians were of a very high standard and performed with great enthusiasm. We look forward to seeing the winners again at our Summer Ball".
