Bus shelter gets new location
A FORMER bus shelter is starting a new life as a ticket office at the historic waterworks in Twyford.
Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Chris Pines, opened the wooden building on Sunday, May 4.
It used to stand outside Winchester library - now the Discovery Centre - in Jewry Street. It was threatened with demolition, but volunteers at Twyford Waterworks offered it a home, and it was craned away.
The former Hants and Dorset bus shelter, which was later used as a kiosk, has now been restored to its former glory.
One of the very few Hants and Dorset buses still running was also at the waterworks to mark the occasion.
Several other historic vehicles, such as traction engines, were also present for the opening, which coincided with an open day at venue.
Volunteers said there were plenty of visitors, and the kitchen sold out of sandwiches, cakes and ice cream.
